Max range vs flag range: the number that matters

Max range is usually quoted for a large, reflective target such as a tree or a building. A flagstick is a thin pole, so it gives the laser far less to bounce off. That is why the flag lock range is much shorter than the number on the box. Of the six listings we read, only the Callaway 300 Pro and the Gogogo GS24 print one.

What the two listings say
- Callaway 300 Pro: 1,000 yards on the box. Its Pin Acquisition Technology locks the pin up to 300 yards, with a short vibration. Callaway's own page repeats the 300 yard figure. That is 30 percent of the headline.
- Gogogo GS24: 1,200 yards on the box. The listing says the flagpole lock works up to 150 yards on the pole alone, and 250 yards when you aim at the unfolded flag. That is 13 and 21 percent of the headline. Gogogo's own page, for what it calls a 2026 upgrade, says 250 yards to the flagpole and 300 yards to the flag. Check which version you are buying.
The 4 that print no flag range
The Bushnell Tour V6 Shift, Bushnell Tour V5 (non-slope), Blue Tees Series 3 Max+ and REDTIGER Golf Rangefinder listings give a max range and describe flag lock, but print no yardage for it. That is not proof they fall short. It means you cannot compare them on the number that matters. Where the makers disagree with the listing, we note it: Blue Tees' own table gives its Series 3 Max+ 900 yards of max range against 1,000 on Amazon, and the REDTIGER listing says 1,200 in the title and 1,000 in its spec table.
How much flag range do you need?
Take the longest shot you would ever aim at a flag, usually your longest club into a par 4 or a par 5 you can reach. Your rangefinder needs to lock a flagstick at least that far. Past that, extra max range only helps you range trees and bunkers far off. Put your number into the checker.
How to lock a flag more easily
- Hold steady. Brace your elbows on your body or rest the unit on the cart.
- Scan across the flag while holding the button, and wait for the lock signal: a vibration, a flash, or both.
- Aim at the flag cloth when it hangs out. The GS24 listing gives it a longer lock range than the bare pole.
